Maintaining that the Congress has always been in the forefront in the fight for freedom and safeguarding the rights of the common people, she said, “In the last seven years, the Congress-led UPA government under the leadership of the Prime Minister Manmohan Singhji has initiated a number of measures that have brought great relief to the aam aadmi while ensuring them their rights. Rahul Gandhi: UP backward due to misrule of non-congress governments
Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has blamed non-congress parties which have been ruling Uttar Pradesh for last two decades for its present plight. Parties like BJP, SP and BSP have been playing politics with the people rather than for the people. Congress (I) government at the centre has been sending schemes for development of UP. For instance Mahatma Gandhi NREGA Scheme was sent for providing employment to the rural poor. But Mayawati government said it would not help the people. MNREGA guarantees 100 days employment at the rate of Rs 120 per day to the needy people. While this scheme is roaring success in Congress (I) ruled states like Haryana and Andhra Pradesh, in UP it is failing due to corruption in Mayawati government, said Rahul Gandhi. Only way to change this is to bring back Congress (I) in coming Assembly elections in early 2012 which will ensure development and prosperity.

There can be difference of opinions on various issues but these differences can be ironed out through discussions within the organization”.

She reminded “Congress has a long history of service and sacrifice. Many of leaders have given up their lives for the Nation”. “Politics is not about exhorting power but to work for a better world. UP Assembly elections - Mayawati now doing image make up: Congress (I)
Congress (I) has said in the wake of coming Assembly elections Mayawati is trying to make up her dented image by launching ‘Operation Clean.’ Numbers of tainted ministers have been removed from the cabinet. BSP legislators facing criminal cases have been suspended from the party. Lokayukta has indicted a number of ministers in Mayawati cabinet on various charges like corruption, misuse of power, grabbing of government and gram panchayat land, said Congress (I). Since there was no alternative left Mayawati had to remove the tainted minister. Another bunch of cabinet ministers and legislators have been convicted by criminal courts for various crimes ranges from murder to rape, abductions to extortions. But people are not impressed with all this. What was Mayawati doing over last five years when people were crying out for help? Now it is too little, too late to make up clean image.

Rahul Gandhi in Maharajganj (UP)
On the fourth day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Mayawati Government for the misuse of the fertilizers and urea sent by the Centre. “We sent fertilizers to Uttar Pradesh for the farmers but they are being black-marketed in Nepal. As a result the farmers in the state do not get the required fertilizers and urea sent by the Union Government,” he said.
He was addressing a well attended rally at Maharajganj near the UP-Nepal border on the last day of his UP tour as part of the Congress campaign for the upcoming assembly polls. Referring the farmers’ issues Congress General Secretary claimed that the Congress Governments realizes not just the strength of the farmers but also the difficulties faced by them. “Congress Governments in states like Delhi, Haryana or Andhra Pradesh have been making policies aiming for the welfare of the farmers. They acquire the lands of farmers by paying adequate compensation. But in Uttar Pradesh, BSP Government grabbed the poor farmers’ land in the Ganga and Yamuna Expressways forcibly. Did not pay proper compensation and sold it to the builders. When the farmers agitated, they were labeled as Naxals,” he argued.
“In Tappal and Bhatta-Parsaul farmers were assaulted by the BSP Government. Police fired at the agitating farmers when they were merely resisting the wrong and forceful land acquisition. When the farmers asked for the adequate compensation for their own land the government authorities called them Naxals. Mayawati Government gave no justice but only bullets to the farmers,” said Rahul Gandhi.

Addressing the elected members she said, “ I am happy to be in this historical Youth Congress convention. I expect that you all must have b been benefited with the discussions of the last two days. Our party is the oldest party of this country. In pre independence era the Congress party encouraged the new generation in every part of the country to come forward and provided opportunity to them.
Rajivji believed that our youth will take the country in the forefront of the first row of nations. His decision to provide voting rights at the age of 18 years gave lakhs of youngsters to participate in the democratic process.
Today, Indian youth have registered their presence in the country and abroad in every field. Talented youth should be brought in politics and that's the need of the hour. Your election, your training and your involvement will help in nation building. The process of training which has started is commendable. The very first time you have brought in accountability of the assignment as one's identity. This will help to strengthen the party from the grass root till the top. You all are the foundation of the party and country's hope.
The process of change which has started has given you the elected representatives a very big responsibility. You have to ascertain that the faith which has been shown in you shouldn't go waste. You are responsible towards them who have elected you. And that's why you have to be regularly in touch with them. You have to involve them in your programmes. You have to assign them work and use your imagination in a way that today's voter becomes a sincere worker in the future.

Bapu challenged, questioned and refined every idea he ever had
A leader in the Indian tradition is not someone who leads people , she is someone who knows how to lead herself.
Gandhiji believed that all human beings have right to political expression. He never sought to control or own the Congress party. Gandhiji not only changed the organization, he changed the people within it.
Today we don't have a Gandhiji. That's why we are using the system of elections and democratization which will enable the Youth Congress to open itself for the youth of this country."
Senior Leaders of the Congress Party, Elected Office Bearers of the Indian Youth Congress, Distinguished Guests and Friends:
Gandhiji is no longer a man. He has become an idea. He is an expression of all that is good in humanity. He is one in a long line of people who truly represent the soul of India.
Gandhiji did not seek to lead people. He only ever led himself. His method was to create a mutiny within himself and relentlessly challenge everything that he stood for. He
challenged, questioned and refined every idea he ever had. He developed leadership in people around him by encouraging them to do the same.
A leader in the Indian tradition is not someone who leads people. She is someone who knows how to lead herself.
Gandhiji believed all human beings have the right to political expression. His conflict with the British occurred because he felt they did not allow Indians the right to political expression. He understood that the Congress was a powerful institution that could give India
a political voice. He cracked its hinges open and used it to provide a political identity to millions of Indians. He never sought to control or own the Congress Party. He strove instead to give it to its true owners, the people of India. Gandhiji did not only change the organization. He changed the people within it.
Gandhiji broke the doors of our organisation open with the force of his personality. Today we don't have a Gandhiji. That is why we are using a system of elections and democratization that will enable the Youth Congress to open itself to the youth of our nation. This system of periodic elections will
ensure that the youth of India will have the opportunity to elect their own leaders every two years.
The elections have empowered a new generation of Youth Congress leaders. As you begin this journey I would like to offer you some ideas that might help you as you progress in the world of politics.
We come into this world with nothing and we leave with nothing. The only thing you will ever have as a political leader is the trust of your people. Gandhiji maintained this trust till
the day he died. In fact he maintains it today as I speak. Try not to lose this trust.
Today, many political leaders lead by telling people what they want to hear. People who tell others what they want to hear are not called leaders. They are called followers. Learn to lead.
Test your ideas. Challenge your thoughts. Create mutinies within yourselves and others around you. Develop a relationship with your people. Learn to listen to people. Listen to and respect your opponents because they guide you. But most importantly, learn to
recognise and fight for the truth. Finally, understand that leadership in our tradition is not about taking but about giving. It is not about leading people but about leading yourselves.
I wish you all the best for a great journey.
I would like to end by inviting the youth of
India to take the reins of the Youth Congress and guide the destiny of our Nation.

Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar Says that he is angry that UP slips backwards
90% are being looted. So you should not let such things happen in your state”.
Emphasizing the need for a good government Rahul Gandhi said, “you should bring in a government that works for the entire society – all caste and religion, the poor, dalits, adivasis and the underprivileged. A government that reaches you, listen to you and understand your problems. You can see Congress Governments in Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Haryana or Delhi. We serve the poor in all those states. Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar “People from U.P help developing other states”
Attacking the state government Rahul Gandhi said that in Uttar Pradesh the real problem is the government, not the people. “They do not come to you to know your pain. They do not listen to you. The government represents only 10% of the society and it works only for them and the funds for the rest 90% are being looted. So you should not let such things happen in your state”.
Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar, U.P “Fertilizers for the farmers being black-marketed”
Expressing his anger over the bad conditions in the state Rahul Gandhi said “I feel angry for the fact that the people of Uttar Pradesh help other countries to develop. The shining metro in Delhi was made by the labours from UP. The roads and buildings in Mumbai were built by them. Who are reaping the benefits of your labour, the respective states. But no jobs are available here in U.P. How can they get jobs without having proper roads, sufficient electricity and water? If your state and you are not developing, you will have to go to other places like Maharashtra, Punjab and Delhi and you have been doing so. We need better development and infrastructure. We need roads, electricity and sufficient water.
Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar, U.P on BSP Govt’s atrocities against the farmers
“All states, Maharashtra, Haryana, Mumbai, Kerala or Andhra Pradesh, are also surging ahead. The responsibility of the Government is to bring development. But what is happening in Uttar Pradesh? No roads, no electricity or water” he complained. Lamenting over the poor infrastructure in Uttar Pradesh Rahul Gandhi said that the roads in Uttar Pradesh last only 3 months. “The roads are languishing in dilapidated state and are littered with gutters and potholes. Because the funds meant for the roads and other amenities are being diverted to the pockets of ministers and contractors”.
Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar, U.P “Mayawati’s elephant eats money”
“We sent fertilizers to Uttar Pradesh for the farmers but they are being black-marketed in Nepal. As a result the farmers in the state do not get the required fertilizers and urea sent by the Union Government,” he argued.
Commenting on the misuse of Central funds Rahul Gandhi said, “The money sent through the MGNREGA does not reach the poor. Same is the case with the Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY). The scheme meant for the benefit of the poor women is also being misused in Uttar Pradesh. Every poor woman is entitled to get Rs 1,400 under this scheme to meet the expenses for the delivery. But in Uttar Pradesh the money meant for the poor women do not reach them. Instead they are forced to bribe the hospital authorities to avail the benefit. This clearly indicates that the money that should have actually reached the poor is not reaching them.”

Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar narrates the pathetic condition of a U.P hospital
Referring the farmers’ issues Congress General Secretary claimed that the Congress Governments realizes not just the strength of the farmers but also the difficulties faced by them. “Congress Governments have been making policies aiming for the welfare of the farmers. They acquire the lands of farmers by paying adequate compensation. When rich people sell their lands, they get proper price for the land. But in U.P if poor farmers sell their land to the Government and ask for adequate compensation, Government assaults them. Congress (I) will fulfill its promises to the people of Uttar Pradesh
Rahul Gandhi has assured the people of Uttar Pradesh that Congress (I) will fulfill its solemn promises to usher a new era of development in the state. The people will feel the change after a long gap of over two decades of misrule of BJP, SP and BSP government. While on five days pubic contact program in the state Rahul Gandhi reminded the people that it was Congress (I) which after country’s independence established big projects in Uttar Pradesh. These were for electricity generation, for spread of electrification network all across the state. Irrigation projects were undertaken for farmers. Pace of industrial growth of accelerated. But all that stopped under BJP, SP and BSP rule. These parties indulged in petty politics of vote bank and all together ignored development. Rahul Gandhi has assured that Congress (I) will reverse this trend and will put the state on fast track development.
Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar, U.P on Mayawati’s negative stand on MGNREGA
He went on to say “I also travel by Helicopter, but I go to people too. When you go to people, mingle with them, talk to them, share meals with the, stay with them, drink water from their well, get sick then only you will be able to realize their problems. Leaders should come out of Helicopters and should go to the masses.”
Expressing his concern over the pathetic conditions of the hospitals in U.P “I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted,” he said.
Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar, U.P on Congress-led UPA’s MGNREGA
Appreciating the efforts of the Congress-led UPA Government at the centre Rahul Gandhi said “Our Government came to you, listened to you to realize your problems. You told us that you are not able to fetch a job in your villages, but the rich people do get it. We therefore designed the biggest employment generation scheme MGNREGA for the benefit of the poor. Through the MGNREGA policy every poor person is assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs 120, thus Rs 12,000 per year is guaranteed. All the states welcomed this policy and implemented it at their places. You go to Andhra Pradesh or any other places, you can experience that. In all these states the funds meant for the scheme reach to the people. You can find the details from the internet. Ask anybody in Andhra Pradesh or Kerala about the most beneficial scheme of the Central Government. Without any doubt most will say it is MGNREGA. All other states like Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Rajasthan, Haryana or Delhi all are benefitted by this scheme”. Taking a dig at Mayawati he continued “But your Chief Minister says that MGNREGA is not beneficial. Mayawati has said that publically also during a rally in 2007 at Lucknow. She will say that the scheme is of no use for you because she doesn’t come to you and realize your pain. If she goes to the poor they will tell her about the benefit of the scheme. But she stays in Lucknow and travels by Helicopter.”
Rahul Gandhi at Khushi Nagar, U.P on BJP’s ‘India Shining’ slogan
On the fourth day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi lashed out at Mayawati Government and teased her by saying that the grass-eating ‘elephant’ was converted to a money-eating’ elephant’ by Mayawati. He was addressing a rally at.
Addressing a huge gathering at Pradesh Padrauna in Uttar Pradesh on the last day of his five-day tour to the state as part of the Congress campaign for the upcoming assembly polls he did not spare BJP too. He said that BJP failed to note the problems of the people and claimed that India was shining. “They designed the ‘India Shining’ slogan behind closed doors and their leaders did not go to people, could not understand the poor state of affairs in the villages and thought that India was shining. But the people of India gave them a befitting reply by voting Congress-led UPA to power”. He underlined that the Congress is committed to work for the poor, dalits, adivasis and underprivileged.
Rahul Gandhi: Whenever there is a change, initially people make fun of it but finally they acceept
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi today inaugurated the Youth Congress Convention in Rohini, Delhi. While addressing a massive rally of newly-elected office-bearers of the Youth Congress Rahul Gandhi urged the youth of the country to work together and cleanse the political system in the country.
“Corruption is most rampant in the political parties in our country. So this political system is to be cleansed and changed. Only the youth of the country can do so. So be ready, work together, change the system” said the Congress General Secretary in-charge of the Youth Congress and NSUI. The two day convention called “Buniyaad’ is the first of its kind in the history of the Youth Congress and is being attended by 8,000-odd elected members from across the country.
"All other parties follow the process of nomination. But the Youth Congress reflects voices that are democratically elected. Not Rahuljee or any other senior leaders selected you, you are here on the basis of your own merit, strength and capacity. Wherever I travel, I see how you are helping change the attitude" said Rahul Gandhi amidst great applauds. “India's youth must help usher in change", he added.
The Congress General Secretary appreciated the efforts to strengthen democracy in the Youth Congress. “During my initial interactions with the friends of Youth Congress, they complained that their voices go unheard in the organization”. “So we started the process of democratization in the Youth Congress (YC). We started it from Punjab and have now implemented in most of other states. Whenever there is a change initially people make fun of it, then they watch and finally they change themselves”, he claimed.
Boosting the confidence of the Youth Congress workers Rahul Gandhi added “If you have faith and confidence in yourself, nobody can stop you from reaching the top. If you continue to work hard for YC and the Congress you can reach miles ahead.”
Rahul Gandhi also appraised the YC members regarding the democratic elections in the outfit. “We ensured that the elections in the Youth Congress are free and fair. We adopted a method similar to the method adopted by the Election Commission of India. Even opposition parties admit that election in the YC is free and fair.”
Reiterating the need of involvement of the youth in politics the Congress General Secretary added “Previously the doors of the politics were closed for the youth. Members came to politics through nominations and recommendations and not on merit. Such leaders were not able to perform satisfactorily and they lacked contact with the masses.” and asked the emerging leaders to work for the cause of common man. “You are not like that. So go to the people, take out people’s issues, talk to them and mingle with them. Poverty is a serious matter of concern. India cannot be shinning till the day there is no poor person in the country. So fight for the poor, fight for aam aadmi”, he urged.
Rahul Gandhi also underlined the role of senior leaders and said “The youth cannot work alone. Do not think that you are the bonded labourers of the party. Seniors are there to guide you and work with you. We need to blend experience with the youth”.

Rahul Gandhi thanks Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that he has decided to work for Amethi even from his childhood days. Rahul Gandhi also thanked Priyanka Gandhi who is campaigning for him. He promised Amethi that he will continue to work for Amethi and he would ensure development.
Rahul Gandhi ridicules BJP’s slogan
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that for development the involvement of the poor people also should be ensured. Rahul Gandhi also ridiculed the slogan India is Shining by BJP. Congress is for the upliftment of poor and common people of the Country he said. This is the difference between Congress and BJP added Rahul Gandhi.
Mayawati govt. misused NREGA in Uttar Pradesh: Congress (I)
Congress (I) has blamed Chief Minister Mayawati for misusing MGNREGA all over Uttar Pradesh. It will be recalled that Congress (I)-led UPA government came up with a scheme for providing guaranteed employment to rural poor near the place of their residence. The scheme is meant to reduce unemployment. The scheme assures guaranteed employment for minimum 100 days in a year just for asking without any qualification. It assures income to poor families because government is direct employer and there is no contractor or middleman, said Congress (I). The entire cost of the scheme is met by Congress (I)-led UPA government at the centre. Yet Mayawati government misused MGNREGA funds meant solely for the poor. Instead of giving employment to needy poor bogus muster-rolls were made to show that funds were spent. Thus Mayawati government has played fraud with dalit and poor, said Congress (I).
Rahul Gandhi recalls childhood memories
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gndhi recalled his childhood memories of traveling around North India with father Rajiv Gandhi. There were no proper roads and other infracture said Rahul Gandhi. He also recalled his visits to the houses of the poor people in Amethi. From that day onwards I vowed to work for the development of Amethi.
Rahul Gandhi not in politics for post but for serving the poor people
It is heartening that in the present scenario of terrible murky politics marked by greed, ruthlessness and violence, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has emerged as a new hope. Everybody is impressed by the young Congress (I) leader’s transparent style of functioning. People are seeing Rahul Gandhi as bacon that promises to usher a new chapter of much needed progressive administrative reforms in the country. He has a vision for economic development to match with competitive market forces. Rahul Gandhi’s often rounds to educational centers for excellence foretells his plans for induction of cutting edge innovative technologies to meet the new challenges. What impresses people most is that he has no appetite for power or for ministerial post. His regular visits to rural areas and staying in the houses of dalits and poor have acquainted him with issues of aam aadmi. Surely Rahul Gandhi is one leader whom people trust and want him to lead the country.

Digvijay: Mayawati feeling threatened by Congress
The Indian National Congress kicked off the Uttar Pradesh poll campaign from Phulpur a few days ago. Party’s poster boy for the 2012 Assembly elections Rahul Gandhi hit the campaign trail right from his great grandfather’s constituency.
The war of words between the Congress and the BSP chief Mayawati has been boiling since recently. Congress' in-charge of Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh has quite been in news for his racy comments and counter-comments.
‘Behenji’ has recently said that the Congress wants ‘Diggi’ to be the chief ministerial candidate for the upcoming UP elections. Now, he has attacked the chief minister terming her statement ‘outrageous’.
"I don't have a vote in UP. How can I when I am not even a voter in UP? She is now strongly rattled and feeling threatened by Congress. Mayawati made an outrageous statement that I may (be) in the run for CM UP!" Singh tweeted.
Singh has often been the subject of political buzz in the recent years. This is time he comes up best with that in order to help his party and Rahul. Nevertheless, how Rahul handle things ahead in the campaign is bound to affect his future.

Rahul Gandhi in Dumariyaganj, Uttar Pradesh, Part-1
On the fourth day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took a dig at BJP by questioning the ‘India Shining’ slogan during the 2004 Parliament elections. Addressing a huge gathering at Dumariyaganj in Uttar Pradesh as a part of his campaign in the state for the upcoming assembly elections he said that the BJP failed to note the problems of the people and claimed that India was shining.
“They brought the ‘India Shining’ slogan because their leaders do not go to people, do not mingle with them and do not share their meals. As a result they could not understand the poor state of affairs in the villages and thought that India was shining. Some senior leaders without trying to ascertain the actual situation; sitting inside TV studios and declared that India is shining. But that is not the truth. What is shining then? It was their houses, their vehicles that were shining but the poor people continued to struggle,” he added.
He categorically stated that that India cannot be shinning till the day there is no poor person in the country. He underlined that the Congress is committed to work for the poor, dalits, adivasis and underprivileged by stating the Congress slogan – a government of aam aadmi, a government for development.
Congress’ upsurge a threat to BSP
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister and Bahujan Samaj Party Chief, Mayawati has been coming hard on the Congress recently in view of the oldest political party’s potential and possible revival in the state through the upcoming Assembly election.
The systematic campaign of Mayawati against the Congress is a sign that she is concerned at the prospect of the Congress hurting chances of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) in the January 2012 election.
Political observers are of the view that in the last Assembly election, Mayawati had put up a spectacular performance as she was successful in getting the support of the upper caste voters especially the Brahmins.
However, the Congress succeeded in attracting sections of the upper castes in the 2009 Lok Sabha election owing to aggressive campaigning and huge efforts by the Congress general secretary Rahul Gandhi.

"I have full faith in the people of youth. The moment you make changes in your thought process, your state will progress. I come to you, eat with you, stay with you. Rahul Gandhi in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh-Part-1
On the third day of his tour to Uttar Pradesh Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi lashed out at the BSP and SP maintaining that both the parties forgot the people and work selectively. Addressing a huge Congress workers' gathering at Balrampur AICC General Secretary said that the present BSP Government has lost touch with the people and has been plundering the Central funds meant for the poor.
Referring the UPA Government policies Congress General Secretary said that the UPA Government at the centre or the Congress run governments in various states are working sincerely for the common man, poor, dalit, adivasis and the underprivileged.
Highlighting the significance of the MGNREGA scheme, Rahul Gandhi said, "through the MGNREGA policy every poor person is assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs 120, thus Rs 12,000 per year is guaranteed. This is not just a scheme but a law. Even if the government wants to stop giving the amount it cannot do so. Ask anybody in Andhra Pradesh or Kerala about the most beneficial scheme of the Central Government. Without any doubt most will say it is MGNREGA. You can search internet. You can yourself see the entire details of the scheme and the list of all the beneficiaries and the transactions there."
Once again questioning the stand of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on MGNREGA, Rahul Gandhi commented, "when all other states are admitting that MGNREGA is the most useful policy, UP chief minister says that the scheme is of no use. In October 2007 Mayawati during a public rally had said that the MGNREGA is not beneficial for the state. But I request her to go to the people and ask them about the scheme. Everyone will tell her the benefits."
Regarding the misuse of central funds by the BSP Government the Congress General Secretary alleged that the central government has sanctioned thousands of crores for Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, it did not reach the people . The amount is going into the pockets of ministers, BSP leaders and bureaucrats.
Rahul Gandhi also expressed his concern over the pathetic conditions in the hospitals in the state. "I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted," he said.

Referring to the wrongful land acquisition and the atrocities inflicted in many villages in UP Congress General Secretary took on the BSP Government. "Farmers are the biggest strength of the country. But what is happening with the farmers in UP. In Tappal and Bhatta-Parsaul a lot of farmers and women were assaulted at the behest of BSP Government. Police fired at the agitating farmers while they were merely resisting the wrong and forceful land acquisition by the UP Government. No BSP people or SP people went there. But the Congress went there, listened to them and understood their problems. Not only that, the Congress led Government at the centre drafted a new Land Acquisition Bill. But some parties have been opposing it. Who is the loser? It is the common man, poor farmers and villagers are the losers. Congress is committed to work for the poor. We will keep on fighting for your rights," said Rahul Gandhi.

Reiterating Congress' commitment to the welfare of common man Rahul Gandhi told the party workers that the state government in UP represents only 10% of the people and the rest 90% are being ignored. "The castist governments loot the Central funds and do not bother about development. But Congress wants to bring in a government that works for everybody. Uttar Pradesh is the biggest state in the country and used to show the path to other states. You cannot change UP if you do not change the government in the state. We need a government who treats entire people as one," he said.
Rahul Gandhi at Nanpara, U.P urges people "We can change U.P together"
Rahul Gandhi assured, "Congress will change UP in five years. Your money will reach you. It is not difficult to bring changes in the state. The people of Uttar Pradesh have the strength. They have the energy. Do not let it waste."
"I have come here not for elections, but to change UP. All other states are surging ahead but UP going backwards. The people of Uttar Pradesh go to other places and contribute for the development at those places. They are not able to do anything in UP. Till you do not change this I will not go from here," said Rahul Gandhi to the cheering crowd.

Questioning Mayawati’s ambiguous stand vis-à-vis MGNREGA Rahul Gandhi wondered, “UP Chief Minister has been saying that MGNREGA is not a useful scheme for the state. But yesterday, she claimed that she never said that MGNREGA is of no use. However, in October 2007 Mayawati during a rally in Lucknow had said that state of Uttar Pradesh will not be benefitted from the scheme. You can check the newspaper records for that. In my opinion Mayawati is wrong. Every poor person in this country will benefit from this employment guarantee scheme. ”

He was addressing a rally at Pachperwa in Balrampur, Uttar Pradesh as a part of the Congress campaign for the upcoming assembly polls.
"Every time whenever I mingle with the poor, visit their houses and share meals with them, some senior leaders while sitting inside TV studios mock at me. They call such things a drama of Rahul Gandhi," he told a gathering. "If mixing with the people to understand their problems and issues is a drama, I will continue with this drama throughout my life. I will go to their houses. I will eat their food. I will drink water from their well. I may fall sick; no problem. But I will not stop this" said Rahul Gandhi amidst loud applauds.
Appreciating the performance of the Congress Governments Congress General Secretary said, “The UPA Government at the centre has been working for the benefits of the common man, poor, dalit, adivasis and underprivileged. All the Congress led Governments at various places like Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and Delhi continue with efforts of serving the common man. We made policies like MGNREGA, Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and Janani Suraksha Yojana for the benefits of the poor in the country”. He then added “By the MGNREGA policy every poor person is assured of a minimum of 100 days jobs in a year with a daily wage of Rs120. We sanctioned amounts under this scheme to Uttar Pradesh also. Day before yesterday only we sanctioned a huge fund for the state. We sanctioned Rs. 3000/- crore funds for Bundelkhand too. But the amount does not reach you” and urged “In Uttar Pradesh also you should bring in a Government which listens to you.”
Rahul Gandhi also expressed his concern over the pathetic conditions in the hospitals in the state. “I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. He advised Mayawati to go to the people and listen to their grievances.

On the second day of his UP tour Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took on the Mayawati- led BSP Government in the state. Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Nanpara, Rahul Gandhi argued that the UP Government has been looting the Central welfare funds meant for the poor.
Adding further he said, “last time we had sanctioned Rs 5,000 crore under MGNREGA to the UP Government and yesterday we again sanctioned Rs 12,000 crore. But the sad part is that this amount does not reach the common man in the state. When I asked the people of UP they said that the MGNREGA policy is good but the benefits do not reach them. This is quite sad as this money does not belong to the central government or the state Government or the ministers it is your money. Still you are denied of it.”

Rahul Gandhi at Nanpara, U.P challenges Mayawati’s stand on MGNREGA
On the second day of his UP tour Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi took on the Mayawati- led BSP Government in the state. Addressing a Congress workers’ meet at Nanpara, Rahul Gandhi argued that the UP Government has been looting the Central welfare funds meant for the poor.
The one towards truth is strong and not who has money, says Rahul at Barabanki
The AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi hours ago addressed hundreds of people at a poll rally at Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh. He is on a 5-day tour of the state. He spoke on many a problem the people of Uttar Pradesh have been facing under the ruling Mayawati government.
“I have quite old relations with Barabanki. Nehruji’s close aid and friend belonged from here. I came last time here and you made us win,” said the young Congress MP from Amethi.
After delivering his best in the inaugural poll rally at Phulpur more than a week ago, he has now spoken with strong words once again. He highlighted many problems of the UP people in the rally which saw mammoth turnout.
Rahul said, “The one who is towards truth is strong. Strength comes from people. Whichever government came here, it came up against people. They worked against the people. They were the government of the selected.”
Today’s programme of Rahul Gandhi’s campaign rally started with Barabanki. It has to be followed up to Ramnagar, Kesargunj and Bambi (Mehsi).
The young Congress leader has been successful in expressing his concerns over the various grave issues of the heartland state of
“Truth wins or money you will see. Workers are the spine of the Congress. Since 2004 the UPA government is at the centre of
Rahul explained the usefulness and effectiveness of the MGNREGA. He said that the amount of Rs. 1,400 which every rural person should get under the scheme goes to the pockets of the bureaucrats, officers and middlemen.
“We brought the MGNREGA. In the MGNREGA, there is provision of guaranteeing 100 days employment which means Rs. 1,400 in a year. Where does the money go? It goes to the middleman, to the officers.”
He told the people there how the Mayawati government refused to accept the social welfare scheme and said that it was “not needed”. But, Rahul accepted the Act has not been successful in UP because of corruption.
“I went to the state’s Mayawati government proposing the law. The Chief Minister said it is not required in UP. Go wherever you want and ask the poor, they will answer till date no other social-welfare has been launched such as the MGNREGA. But if you ask someone in UP, they will say it hasn’t worked. It’s true there are no benefits out of it in UP.”
“Janani Surakhsha Yojna provides Rs. 1400 to (child bearing) woman. What happened? The money got siphoned off in the middle. In UP, woman gives birth to child every week. Rs. 60,000 was given to wave farmers’ debt. Future is yours, the poor’s.”
“If you talk about the weavers’ package, it was found out on query if it was given through society or committee nothing would be left for them. We changed the whole package. We decided to deposit the money directly into the weavers’ accounts. Weavers’ debt of Rs. 3000 crore was waved. They were issued credit cards. The interest rate given to the weavers is same as of farmers. You will see. The weavers will be benefited.”
“The Congress thinks of the future. Have you heard of the UID? There are several cards like Ration Card, voter ID, Driver’s License, etc. For one person there are multiple cards. We are making one card for one person. There will be one number for one person. What happens is there are different departments for different cards and the associated services. But we are merging them into one.”
“We won’t forget anyone. Loss is the most with you. See,
“If it does not grow, you have to go to different regions all across
On asking one Asha Ram Verma in the Barabanki meeting how and what he felt on hearing Rahul, he said, “I liked Rahul’s speech. He has spoken what he should spoke. If his government comes (in the state) he will really make things better.”
There were many distressed faces in the first day of Rahul’ rally and they came for hope. An NSUI member Fahad Jamal said, “No development work in UP. Only parks have been built in
An aged person Gowind Rawat told how even government hospitals indulge in corrupt practices. He said, “No treatment is there. Whenever he took one of his kin there, she could not be treated. Moreover, bribe of Rs. 50 is to be given for treatment. I hope if Rahul Gandhi’s government (i.e. Congress’ government comes to power, everything will be OK.”
“We have to move together. We have to fight together. And you have to make Congress win,” said the young Gandhi at the end of his speech at Barabanki.
