Mayawati govt. misused NREGA in Uttar Pradesh: Congress (I)

Congress (I) has blamed Chief Minister Mayawati for misusing MGNREGA all over Uttar Pradesh. It will be recalled that Congress (I)-led UPA government came up with a scheme for providing guaranteed employment to rural poor near the place of their residence. The scheme is meant to reduce unemployment. The scheme assures guaranteed employment for minimum 100 days in a year just for asking without any qualification. It assures income to poor families because government is direct employer and there is no contractor or middleman, said Congress (I). The entire cost of the scheme is met by Congress (I)-led UPA government at the centre. Yet Mayawati government misused MGNREGA funds meant solely for the poor. Instead of giving employment to needy poor bogus muster-rolls were made to show that funds were spent. Thus Mayawati government has played fraud with dalit and poor, said Congress (I).
