Congress has worked to transform our economy

The Congress party can say with satisfaction that it has transformed the Indian economy between 1980 and 1997 and set it on a rising exponential growth path. In the 8th Plan, the growth rate went up to 7.5%. Had that trend continued, we should have had a growth rate in the 9th Plan period, (1997-2002) closer to 7.5%. Instead during these years of non-Congress government and BJP rule, the growth rate fell to 5.5%, which was even lower than the 6th Plan period, (1980-1985). The mismanagement by the non-Congress government cost the country a huge loss of output compared to its potential. In a year after the 9th Plan, (2002-2003) the growth rate fell further, to less than 4.5%. In that one year alone, the country lost more than Rs. 170000 crores of potential output. The Congress party under the guidance of Congress President and leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh assures the people of our country that it will continue to work for taking our economy to new heights so that ‘aam aadmi’ may live and enjoy purposeful life.

Congress: Social activists should not make irresponsible statements

Congress leaders are sober and mature while these qualities seem to be deficient in some social activists.  Sometimes social activists and persons with misconceived notion of moral superiority or pre-eminence tend to make incorrect or irresponsible statements which are not expected from them.  Recently Anna Hazare said that the democracy was murdered by invoking section 144 in entire Delhi in the wake of his fast from 16th August.  To say the least this was irresponsible statement made under without controlling personal emotions. Congress makes it clear that section 144 has existed on the statute book for decades indeed for more than 100 years. It was not created for a specific movement and it will not be suspended for any specific movement. We are not a banana republic. We are a proud democracy which is the world’s largest and if anybody has any apprehension about the misuse of that legal provision, he or they or the institutions have every right to approach the court as is fundamentally the right available to everybody.

Congress: Let investigative agencies professionally tackle terrorism

The Congress party has unequivocally declared that terrorism whether based on fundamental ideology or supported from across the border by forces inimical to our national success has been a matter of serious concern for the people of our country and the government. Each such incident of terrorism is a serious menace to our security, harmony and progress. There have never been two opinions about it. The Congress party and the government stand united on this issue. Our resolve is firm and steadfast to stamp it out. During investigation of such activities nothing can be ruled out. When an investigation into such terrorist incident is in progress no one should speculate. Doing so would be tantamount to rubbing salt into the wounds of those who will have to carry the cross of that terror act for the remaining part of their lives. Congress government is committed to build up capacities to see that no terrorist activity is able to get through. So, therefore there is a need to focus the national discourse as to how best we can build up capacities avoiding unnecessary speculation when an investigation is on.

There are millions of people in this country, just like you and me as intelligent, as smart as you; who have not had the opportunity to go to a university. Further it is important to note that Rahul Gandhi always wanted to open the political doors for the youth of this country and make them a part of the political system. He further had stressed that the corruption can be stopped only if the democracy reaches the grass root level. He talks sense and this is the proper method if we are serious to curb graft. Let us hope for a strong and powerful constitutional body to tackle corruption on permanent basis.

Not a single day passes, when these types of incidents do not happen and this indicates a terrible malice in the administration of Uttar Pradesh accused Congress. Congress has been calling upon the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh to take immediate action to set right the law and order problem to ensure that not one more atrocity against the women takes place and even if such acts do occur, to ensure that speedy justice is delivered to the perpetrators and to ensure that particularly the police act effectively added a press release of Congress. It must be ensured that the state becomes safe for women otherwise BSP government will not have any moral authority to continue in office.

Price hike - an issue but ‘aam aadmi’ should be affected adversely: Congress

Hike in prices as in case of petrol is something that is tied up with the international prices from time to time. However, the common man is the primary focus of the government and it is the desire of Congress party that the lives of common people are not affected adversely. Likewise price of diesel is a sensitive issue which affects the lives of common people. However, the party desires that the ‘aam-aadmi’ is not affected by price rise and it reminds the people that price rise in the past has been controlled by effective steps taken by the central government both on the revenue as well as on the administrative side. This is a phenomena that occurs from time to time - sometimes due to monsoon and sometimes due to bad crops. Certain common factors such as hoarding, action against hoarders, Essential Commodities Act and other steps regarding export which are taken by the central government – all these steps haves been taken and the prices are being monitored.
