Representatives of minority organization call on Rahul Gandhi

The representatives of All India Barelvi Ulema Action Committee from Uttar Pradesh met Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi on Monday demanding more representation for the Muslim community in the upcoming polls in the state.

The delegation led by Union Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal met Rahul Gandhi at 10 Janpath. Maulana Senabil Reza Khan from Uttar Pradesh said after the meeting that the Committee told Gandhi about the discrimination the Barelvi Muslims are facing and asked the Congress to pay attention to this issue and also demanded greater representation in the upcoming Assembly polls due next year.

The Congress President Sonia Gandhi also had meetings with leaders from Uttar Pradesh and Punjab. She also enquired the political situation in Uttar Pradesh during discussions with AICC General Secretary in-charge for Uttar Pradesh Digvijay Singh, Jaiswal and Rashid Alvi. From Punjab, former Chief Minister Amarinder Singh, Mohinder Singh Kaypee, Union Ministers Amibka Soni, Ashwini Kumar along with other leaders met Sonia Gandhi. Congress Campaign Committee headed by Sriprakash Jaiswal met late evening to discuss plans for party's campaign in Uttar Pradesh, where Rahul Gandhi is expected to address a large number of rallies and undertake a number of road shows.
