Congress has worked to transform our economy
The Congress party can say with satisfaction that it has transformed the Indian economy between 1980 and 1997 and set it on a rising exponential growth path. In the 8th Plan, the growth rate went up to 7.5%. Had that trend continued, we should have had a growth rate in the 9th Plan period, (1997-2002) closer to 7.5%. Instead during these years of non-Congress government and BJP rule, the growth rate fell to 5.5%, which was even lower than the 6th Plan period, (1980-1985). The mismanagement by the non-Congress government cost the country a huge loss of output compared to its potential. In a year after the 9th Plan, (2002-2003) the growth rate fell further, to less than 4.5%. In that one year alone, the country lost more than Rs. 170000 crores of potential output. The Congress party under the guidance of Congress President and leadership of Dr. Manmohan Singh assures the people of our country that it will continue to work for taking our economy to new heights so that ‘aam aadmi’ may live and enjoy purposeful life.

Congress: Social activists should not make irresponsible statements
Congress leaders are sober and mature while these qualities seem to be deficient in some social activists. Sometimes social activists and persons with misconceived notion of moral superiority or pre-eminence tend to make incorrect or irresponsible statements which are not expected from them. Recently Anna Hazare said that the democracy was murdered by invoking section 144 in entire Delhi in the wake of his fast from 16th August. To say the least this was irresponsible statement made under without controlling personal emotions. Congress makes it clear that section 144 has existed on the statute book for decades indeed for more than 100 years. It was not created for a specific movement and it will not be suspended for any specific movement. We are not a banana republic. We are a proud democracy which is the world’s largest and if anybody has any apprehension about the misuse of that legal provision, he or they or the institutions have every right to approach the court as is fundamentally the right available to everybody.

Congress: Let investigative agencies professionally tackle terrorism
The Congress party has unequivocally declared that terrorism whether based on fundamental ideology or supported from across the border by forces inimical to our national success has been a matter of serious concern for the people of our country and the government. Each such incident of terrorism is a serious menace to our security, harmony and progress. There have never been two opinions about it. The Congress party and the government stand united on this issue. Our resolve is firm and steadfast to stamp it out. During investigation of such activities nothing can be ruled out. When an investigation into such terrorist incident is in progress no one should speculate. Doing so would be tantamount to rubbing salt into the wounds of those who will have to carry the cross of that terror act for the remaining part of their lives. Congress government is committed to build up capacities to see that no terrorist activity is able to get through. So, therefore there is a need to focus the national discourse as to how best we can build up capacities avoiding unnecessary speculation when an investigation is on.

Rahul Gandhi: Poor people only lack opportunities, not potential
Youth icon and Congress General Secretary recently speaking on the availability of opportunities for the poor said, “For me there is only one difference and this is the way I see the world. Regarding weaker section, only thing is that people lack opportunities. That is the only difference. The difference between me and the poorest person in this country or the difference between you and the poorest person in this country, the only difference as far as I am concerned, there is no difference in capability, there is no difference in understanding; the only difference is difference in opportunity. There are millions of people in this country, just like you and me as intelligent, as smart as you; who have not had the opportunity to go to a university. That is the only difference; there is no other difference.” Surely, the Congress is working to fill this difference so that all the people of our country can have equal opportunity to shape their future as they like.

Rahul Gandhi’s Lokpal idea gets Government nod
The Congress led UPA Government hinted that they are planning for a Lokpal institution like the Election Commission. The stand of UPA Govt. is correct and a good step aiming for a long term solution. We can recall the statement of Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi during his sppech on Lokpal debate in Parliament. He also had proposed for a strong constitutional body like EC. His stand now proved right. The proposal of Team Anna is having only a short term vision and simply a bill can not tackle corruption. The solution to curb corruption from the root is most important and for that the idea mooted by Rahul Gandhi is perfect. Further it is important to note that Rahul Gandhi always wanted to open the political doors for the youth of this country and make them a part of the political system. He further had stressed that the corruption can be stopped only if the democracy reaches the grass root level. He talks sense and this is the proper method if we are serious to curb graft. Let us hope for a strong and powerful constitutional body to tackle corruption on permanent basis.

Rahul Gandhi : Aadhar UID card will benefit poor
Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi, during his visit to Amethi on 20th October, 2011, inaugurated a branch of Corporation bank in Amethi. In a function organized at Ramlila Maidan Rahul Gandhi said that unless the poor people including dalits, adivasis and farmers are not ensured the facility of banking, our country would not progress. “Now there are a lot of facilities in the banks like mobile banking. And many dalits and poor people are staying in villages. Unless these people are connected with the banks we cannot achieve development” said Rahul Gandhi. He expressed his happiness to know that the people who cannot sign could use the thumb impression and avail banking services.
He also hinted that some of the state Governments are not using the Central funds effectively. “Centre has been sending huge amounts under various schemes like MGNREGA and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan to the states but these funds are not reaching the poor in the required manner” said Rahul Gandhi. We have been trying to change this, he added. Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi also mentioned about the Aadhar UID card scheme. “Every citizen of this country will have an identity card as a proof of their existence by the Aadhar scheme. Further the card will include the Bank account number along with the Aadhar Card Number so as to ensure connectivity and transparency and with this the Central funds will directly reach the account holder.” said Rahul Gandhi. Rahul Gandhi also recalled the statement of Rajiv Gandhi that when centre sanctions one rupee for the poor only 15 paisa reaches them. He also expressed hope that the new card will help to remove the issues related to BPL card distribution.
Rahul Gandhi also asserted that UPA Government is committed to serve the poor. Only with this intention we made policies like MGNREGA and Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan. We are in the process of drafting a Food Security Bill too, quipped Rahul Gandhi. He concluded his speech by thanking all the people assembled and also expressed his gratitude to Corporation Bank officials for their support and cooperation.

Congress : Daily rapes and murders are twin names of Mayawati govt.
Congress said that in Uttar Pradesh every day there are incidents of gang rape and murder of woman. Not a single day passes, when these types of incidents do not happen and this indicates a terrible malice in the administration of Uttar Pradesh accused Congress. Congress has been calling upon the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh to take immediate action to set right the law and order problem to ensure that not one more atrocity against the women takes place and even if such acts do occur, to ensure that speedy justice is delivered to the perpetrators and to ensure that particularly the police act effectively added a press release of Congress. It is because in one incident of Lakhimpur Kheri, the police have been accused of covering up the incident and it is only after the second autopsy, that involvement of police has been proved. So, the law and order machinery itself is suspect. This indicates a systemic problem in the administration of Uttar Pradesh. It must be ensured that the state becomes safe for women otherwise BSP government will not have any moral authority to continue in office.

Public Health system has collapsed in Uttar Pradesh: Congress
BSP supremo Mayawati’s social engineering has all along been about politics and vote gathering rather than addressing urgent needs of public said Congress. Her government claims to work for poor and dalits but in reality has done nothing for them. Their situation has gone from bad to worse said a Congress press release. As in law and order, in health services area also the state is worst affected. Encephalitis has risen alarmingly. It is deadly water or mosquito borne viral disease. 500 children have died due to it in the last two months in eastern Uttar Pradesh. More than 50,000 lives have been lost in the last three decades. The public health system has now collapsed in the region, which is one of the poorest in India. It has also happened due to neglect of health care services by Mayawati government. Congress led UPA government has been sending thousands of crore of rupees to Uttar Pradesh under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) for improving health services in rural areas. But the funds have been either misused or remained unutilized.

Price hike - an issue but ‘aam aadmi’ should be affected adversely: Congress
Hike in prices as in case of petrol is something that is tied up with the international prices from time to time. However, the common man is the primary focus of the government and it is the desire of Congress party that the lives of common people are not affected adversely. Likewise price of diesel is a sensitive issue which affects the lives of common people. However, the party desires that the ‘aam-aadmi’ is not affected by price rise and it reminds the people that price rise in the past has been controlled by effective steps taken by the central government both on the revenue as well as on the administrative side. This is a phenomena that occurs from time to time - sometimes due to monsoon and sometimes due to bad crops. Certain common factors such as hoarding, action against hoarders, Essential Commodities Act and other steps regarding export which are taken by the central government – all these steps haves been taken and the prices are being monitored.
