Rahul Gandhi: Muslims were ignored by Maya, Mulayam

Attacking SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav and BSP supremo Mayawati for overlooking the issues of the Muslim minority in the state, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi had said these non-Congress leaders have been grossly neglecting the Muslim aspirations. These parties have been using the minority community for gaining power in the state but done nothing for their welfare over the last twenty two years, said Rahul Gandhi while speaking at a public meeting in UP for the recently held assembly polls. Congress (I) has given them 4.5 per cent quota for reservations in government and educational jobs, Rahul Gandhi said adding that this will go a long way to help them in improving their social-economic conditions. Muslim minority is already annoyed with Mulayam Singh Yadav for aligning with former BJP Chief Minister Kalyan Singh during last elections for petty political gains. The announcement of 4.5 per cent quota has now completely deflated Maulayam’s Cycle. Both of these leaders – Mulayam and Mayawati – are now making a point that 4.5 per cent quota in insufficient. But Rahul Gandhi asked if it is so then why these leaders did not give any quota to Muslim minorities during their tenure in office. Highlighting that these leaders are only interested in votes of the Muslims, Rahul Gandhi assured that a review would be carried out for increasing the quota further based on population of the Muslims in the state.
