Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who had headed the Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh said that BJP coined the slogan ‘India Shining’ in 2004 by watching a TV advertisement. Rahul Gandhi said that BJP thought that India was shining without knowing the real situation in the country when they were ruling. “There were no sufficient jobs, roads, water or electricity when NDA was in power for five years prior 2004” said the Congress leader.
Recalling the campaign for 2004 general elections Rahul Gandhi said “During the campaign for the Lok Sabha elections in 2004 while other parties made a number of hollow promises Congress had only promised a government of aam aadmi that works for poor, farmers, minorities, dalits and adivasis and we delivered it”.
“But BJP and NDA brought out a slogan in English ‘India Shining. They told that the slogan was oicked from a TV advertisement. They were in power for five years. But they did not go to people, talked to them or enquired about their problems, they did not ask the women about their issues, still believed blindly that India was shining,” said Rahul Gandhi.
“The people gave them a befitting reply. They decided to trust Congress, Manmohan Singh and Sonia Ji and elected a Congress Government”, added Rahul Gandhi.
