Launching a scathing attack on Mayawati for not providing good governance to the people of the Uttar Pradesh, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that she had failed to control crime particularly those against women of weaker sections. “Pradesh andher nagri ban gaya hai (darkness has engulfed the state). Loot-khosat ki rajniti chal rahi hai (politics of extortion is in full swing). Praja ko sunne wala koi nahe hai (there is no body to attend to the grievances of the people), said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting as part of his Congress campaign in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati put aside critical political, economic and social issues of the state and preferred to indulge in corruption to amass wealth, said Rahul Gandhi. The Congress General Secretary reminded the people, “You have seen what happened in Gautam Budh Nagar to the farmers whose lands were forcibly grabbed by the BSP government to help the corporate builders. Farmers were denied the adequate compensation, said Rahul Gandhi. But those very lands were later sold to private builders at 10 to 15 higher rates” said Rahul Gandhi. Requesting the people to free UP from Maya raj, Rahul Gandhi urged them to support Congress (I) which, he promised, would provide a government to ensure welfare of the people in the state.
