Rahul Gandhi: UPA’s RTI Act empowered people to expose scams

Lauding his party’s concern for pro-people measures, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said that Congress through Right to Information Act (RTI) has empowered people in the real sense. It has enabled people, on the one hand, to challenge the non-responsive administrative authorities, and, on the other hand, empowered them with a key to expose scams, he said while addressing a public meeting in the poll bound UP state for upcoming Assembly elections next month. No other party even thought of RTI while Congress (I) made it a reality, said Rahul Gandhi. It was through the RTI that multi-crore NRHM scam in Mayawati’s government was exposed. Rahul Gandhi reminded the people that Congress (I) has brought number of other measures for the welfare of poor people like Right to Education for children, Women Reservation Bill, Mahatma Gandhi NREGA for providing guaranteed employment to rural poor, NRHM for improving health care services, Janani Sauraksha Yojana for encouraging institutional delivery of pregnant women. Requesting the people to vote for Congress (I), he promised that his party would ensure that the benefits of the welfare schemes and measures reach the people of Uttar Pradesh.
