Congress slams Uma Bharti’s for her comments about Rahul Gandhi

The Congress said that BJP leader Uma Bharti's remarks against Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi were not in good taste and that the people of Uttar Pradesh would never accept an imported leader like her.

"The remarks of Uma Bharti against Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi were not in good taste. She has not learnt to behave herself despite having occupied high positions in the past," UP Congress president Rita Bahuguna Joshi had said.

Uma Bharti had responded to Rahul Gandhi for his comments that she was an outsider from Madhya Pradesh who was contesting from UP. She had said that Rahul Gandhi should remember that his mother and Congress President Sonia Gandhi is from Italy and has been accepted in India.

Defending Rahul Gandhi's, Joshi said "the politically conscious people of will never accept an imported leader". "The people of Madhya Pradesh had reposed their faith in Uma following which she became the chief minister of the state. But, she ended up quarrelling with her seniors and left the party only to return years later," she said.

Joshi said that Rahul Gandhi was deeply concerned about the pain of Dalits and felt they were being cheated by the Mayawati government in the state.

Rahul Gandhi is scheduled to hold a number of rallies in Uttar Pradesh.
