In his speech at the recent Phulpur rally in Uttar Pradesh, kicking of the 2012 Assembly election campaign, the AICC general secretary Rahul Gandhi spoke on many problems the farmers of Bundelkhand region have faced and have been facing.
“The Prime Minister granted a package of Rs. 7000 crore to (drought prone) Bundelkhand and sent the money. We came to Bundelkhand to talk about the package but nothing could be found there of its implementation,” said the young Congress MP from Amethi.
Rahul added, “A few days ago, I went there and found that no wells were there. The package stated that wells are to be made and I was there to see the wells. And, what did I see? I met a farmer, he said there was his well; he had put his money into it – only half of the well was complete.”
The youth Congress icon has really highlighted many contentious issues at a public forum in a big way – he has come up with strong words highlighting the pitiable state of the farmers of Bundelkhand in India’s heartland, that need to ponder over.
