Congress commitment is to serve people. It therefore stands with the people in their hour of needs. Last year there were flash floods in certain areas of Uttarakhand and UP. Congress President along with the Defense Minister visited the flood affected areas of Uttarakhand and UP. They met affected people and saw rescue operations conducted by the Army in the incident of landslide in Almora district. Congress President later flew over Hardwar along Ganga and saw large areas of the Bijnaur Muzzafarnagar Rampur Moradabad and Barielly districts inundated by flood waters. Some of the kutcha houses were totally damaged. Canal and roads were breached at some places. There was extensive damage to the standing Kharif crop. Immediately after reaching Delhi, Congress President spoke to the Prime Minister. She requested the Government of India to have the damage caused by floods and cloud bursts and ensure a liberal package to the affected States released through the National Calamity Relief Fund.
