Rahul Gandhi for dalits’ welfare, Mayawati for dalit politics

Ridiculing Mayawati for playing politics in the name of dalits without doing anything for them, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said Mayawati does not know the plight of dalit and poor on whose name she claims to be ruling Uttar Pradesh. She never goes to their villages; she does not meet them; she does not stand amidst them and interact with them; she does not visit the houses of dalits to know their problem; she does not take meal in dalits’ houses or drink water from their wells. Mayawati see things from above while sitting in helicopter and thinks everything is all right on the ground. Mayawati does not know that dalits and poor are living most miserable life under the rule of Mayawati government. Rahul Gandhi has said he and his Congress (I) are directly connected with dalits and poor and doing what Mayawati has not done for them.

Referring the news paper reports regarding the misuse of Bundelkhand funds he said “I read it in today’s news paper that some minister purchased tractors using the funds sent by the Centre under Bundelkhand package. We had sent Rs. 3000 cr for the poor people of Bundelkhand. But that went to the minister’s pocket” alleged the Congress General Secretary.

Blaming Mayawati’s BSP for claiming to be working for dalits and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s SP for OBCs and minority community, Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said that these parties did not work for any one except for their own self interests for which reason there is need to bring in responsive and pro-poor Congress (I) government. Recently while addressing a public meeting in Baduan (UP) in the wake of coming Assembly elections, Congress (I) leader said SP and BSP have been taking the people of UP for a ride too long. These parties have no vision or plan for future. “They think of present so that they can loot your money. Money that is meant for development schemes like NREGA, Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY), NRHM. The money, which is meant for you people, has gone into ministers’ pockets. So bring a Congress (I) government that talks of development and not caste or religion”, said Rahul Gandhi adding that the people will see the change in just five years.

He added that for those who travel by Helicopter feels that all is well. But they do not realize the reality. They sit in big bungalows in Lucknow and think that everything is fine. To prove his point he cited an example “I went to a hospital in UP where some painting and renovation works were going on. I went inside. There were no doctors, patients or nurses. Dogs were scampering inside. I asked them what is going on. They said that Mayawati is on a tour to this area and she will be visiting the hospital and therefore the renovation. As she was expected to take the road route so the roads were being repaired and the hospital building was being painted.”
