Rahul Gandhi: UP needs a government of the common man

Flaying Mayawati for having been ruling in the name of dalits without doing anything for them, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said people of Uttar Pradesh are annoyed with governments of parties like BSP, SP and BJP that have been polarising the people in the name of caste or religion. “What we need is a Government of the common man. The state cannot progress till we have a Government of ‘aam aadmi.’ This is the theme which Rahul Gandhi is emphasising across the people during his campaign in the poll bound state. He said in the last Assembly elections in 2007 Mayawati had promised corruption-free government but after becoming chief minister she has been running the most corrupt government. BJP and SP have also been playing the same trick over the last twenty two years. Highlighting to the people that they gave twenty two years to these parties without getting any results, Rahul Gandhi urged them to give this time a chance to Congress (I) to form government. He promised that Congress (I) would provide a government which would be responsive to the common man irrespective of his caste or creed and put the state on fast track of development.

Rahul Gandhi said that the state needs a government that works for all sections of the society and thinks about the overall development of the state. The Congress General Secretary claimed that only Congress can provide such a Government.

Rahul Gandhi: Mafia and criminals ruling Uttar Pradesh

Drawing attention of the people to the present bad state of affairs in Uttar Pradesh, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said it is because mafia and criminals are now ruling the state. Uttar Pradesh was giving lead to the country when great leaders like Jawahar Lal Nehru, the first Prime Minister of India represented the state in the Parliament, he reminded while campaigning in the poll bound state. Accusing the parties like Mayawati’s Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Mulayam Singh Yadav’s Samajwadi Party (SP) for playing caste-based politics which helps only the particular group, Rahul Gandhi said Congress (I) believes in inclusive politics which takes care of all the people leaving none out. These parties have misruled the state, indulged in corruption, looted public money and grabbed poor farmer’s lands leaving the development of the state and future of the youth to the dogs, he added. Cautioning the people that these parties have been playing tricks with them for the last twenty two years, Rahul Gandhi said it is time to bring in a change for the better. He exhorted them to give this time a chance to Congress (I) and promised that it would ensure responsive government and put the state back on fast track development.

Mayawati’s social engineering is nothing but a fraud: Rahul Gandhi

Launching a scathing attack against Mayawati for all along indulging in vote bank politics in the name of dalits and poor, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said her so called social engineering is nothing but a fraud upon the innocent people. She claims to be working for upliftment of ‘dalits’ but her politics has nothing to do with the poor, said Rahul Gandhi while addressing a public meeting as part of his Congress campaign for the upcoming Assembly elections in February 2012. Did Mayawati work for education of ‘dalits’, he asked the audience. It is Congress (I), which has brought out Sarva Shiksha Abhyan for poor children, he added. It is a central government financed scheme for poor children. Did Mayawati provide health care to poor people in the state, Rahul Gandhi again asked. It is Congress (I) which sent thousands of crores under NRHM scheme but the money was pocketed by her favorite minister Babu Singh Kushwaha, he alleged. In the name of social engineering she banded together opportunity, turncoats and persons of criminal background said Rahul Gandhi. They grabbed this opportunity to extort money, manipulate government contracts and encroach upon government lands by misusing their official position, he added. Cautioning the people not to trust her anymore, Rahul Gandhi appealed them to give this time a chance to his party to form government. He promised that Congress (I) would put an end to this sleazy situation and ensure good governance to the people of Uttar Pradesh.
