Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi said in Rudhauli (Basti) in U.P on Sunday that whether the Congress got two seats or 100 seats, the party will not ally with anyone. “I will stand by you always. I have come to change Uttar Pradesh and whether it takes five years or 20 years, I will not budge till it is done. There are only five countries in the world which are bigger than UP. We will change it together,” he said while addressing meeting in the state.
Mounting a veiled attack on Mulayam Singh Yadav, he said that now that elections are here, he (Mulayam) is saying that he will turn Bundelkhand into Israel. “Had he gone to Bundelkhand himself, the people there would have told him that they want their Bundelkhand, water, power and development. If this happens, Israel will ask for Bundelkhand. He (Mulayam) also says that he will give free electricity. But for years there has been no new power plant here so where will the electricity come from? Will it come from the skies?” he asked.
He said that elections are here and it is up to the people to decide what they want in UP for the next five years. Shri Gandhi said that he is in politics since 2004 and he had told the people that if the Congress formed government at the centre, it would be a government for the common man. The government will work for the common man and the poor. Our intentions were clear and we worked from the heart. Dr Manmohan Singh and Mrs Sonia Gandhi worked from the heart.
