Mayawati responsible for Bundelkhand’s plight: Rahul Gandhi

Blaming Mayawati for not helping the people of Bundelkhand stricken with drought conditions prevailing there, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has said she is responsible for the plight of the people of that region. Mayawati never visited the people of that region to know their sufferings, said Rahul Gandhi during his public meetings for the ongoing Assembly elections. She did not even bother to go there to see whether relief work was being done to mitigate the suffering of the people, he further said. Apart from being a backward area, drought has compounded the miseries of the people there. Agriculture has failed due to drought, people are unemployed, said Rahul Gandhi adding that hunger has led to starvation death and inability to pay back debt has compelled farmers to commit suicides. Although it was state government’s duty to look after Bundelkhand yet Mayawati did not help. Highlighting that Congress (I)-led UPA government got a package of Rs 8,000 crore arranged for development of Bundelkhand, Rahul Gandhi said ‘but the money did not reach the poor. It was swindled by Mayawati government’. People are asking where has the money gone which centre sent for development, said Rahul Gandhi. Highlighting that Mayawati is really not interested in the welfare of the people of Bundelkhand, Rahul Gandhi urged the people to vote for change this time and assured that Congress (I) will work for welfare of the people and development of Bundelkhand.
