Congress (I) has hit out hard against Mayawati’s rule for unpredicted increase in crime cases against girls and women in the state of UP. In a gruesome incident, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped and killed in Lakhimpur Kheri district of Uttar Pradesh, The incident happened in Umra village under the Singhai police station area recently. The accused, Kamlesh Rana, first allegedly raped the girl and then strangled her with the dupatta when she stepped out of her house. The police confirmed that the girl was strangulated to death. In June, some what similar rape and murder of a teenager inside a police compound in Lakhimpur Kheri sparked massive outrage. Police had then called it a case of suicide. Mayawati govt. first denied crime but later had to admit rape and murder when Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi visited Lakhimpur and took a strong stand for justice for the poor family.
