The Indian National Congress has come out strongly against the Mayawati government in Uttar Pradesh over Union rural development minister Jairam Ramesh's ‘stringent’ letter, which is the centre of the buzz, sent to the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG).
"I have suggested a CAG audit into MGNREGA's working in 12 states, including Congress- ruled Assam, Rajasthan, Andhra Pradesh and Maharashtra, besides West Bengal," he said.
Meanwhile, BSP supremo Mayawati took exception to Ramesh referring to the working of National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) in UP, which is being probed by the CBI. But Ramesh said the implementation of MGNREGA in the state was "no less scandalous" than NRHM, a health ministry scheme.
The ruling state government has failed to live to its terms and has engaged in scandalous administration. The Mayawati rule has established a system where it is easy to make black money openly, flouting all rules and procedures blatantly.
