Congress: Mayawati should accept CBI probe into MGNREGA scam

Union Coal Minister Sriprakash Jaiswal has asked Uttar Pradesh Government to accept CBI probe in Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scam if it believes there are no anomalies in implementation of the scheme.

“If the state government feels that the charges are baseless then they should immediately accept CBI probe in implementation of NREGS in UP. In case there are no anomalies then UP government would get a clean chit before assembly elections,” said Jaiswal while in Lucknow.

Denying that Central government was playing any politics by sending letters, he said, “It is the state government, which is in the habit of sending letters. We do not understand why the state government is shying away from CBI probe if they feel that everything is on the right track in the state.”

It is as simple as that the state government indulged in malpractice, mismanagement and misuse of funds under MGNREGA and other Centre sponsored welfare schemes in the state; and, now, it is shying away from any cross-check which the CAG and the Central has right to do.
