BJP-led NDA turned out be an ignoble chapter in the country’s history. Utterances of BJP government as well as of its Prime Minister were neither coherent nor conducive in any manner. When George Fernandes resigned after Tehelka in March 2001 Vajpayee said, 'The Defence Minister's resignation is an expression of our commitment to law.' When asked how George Fernandes was re-inducted without being absolved of charges in October 2001, Vajpayee said, 'No Comments'. This was the state of governance of the country during BJP government. While visiting Gujarat in the aftermath of the riots, "This Gujarat Chief Minister should follow rajdharma and uphold laws". But later on a visit to the State in the aftermath of the Gujarat riots in April 2002, the same Vajpayee said, 'If innocent people had not been burnt alive in Godhra, the tragedy could have been averted.' Such were the most undesirable public statements on the Vajpayee who was then the Prime Minister of our country.
