During BJP-led NDA government Ministry of Defense became the hub of corruption. Deals and kick-back were struck at the official residence of the Defence Minister. Comptroller and Auditor General’s report found scams in purchase of more than a dozen items during Operation Vijay code name for Kargil war. Rule books were thrown to winds. Defence Purchase Manuals were ignored. Everything was planned and executed for personal gain and thus in most irresponsible manner. CAG report found that instead of restricting the fast track procedure only to purchase of equipments related to Operation Vijay, other items listed in the routine Annual Procurement Review were also included in the purchases. Why? The only answer seems reasonable was to short cut the established procedure to benefit the private parties and in turn to receive kick-backs for favors granted. In the circumstances one may ask: Is BJP worthy of people’s trust anymore? The short answer is not at all.
