Back from his recent public contact program in districts of central UP where he campaigned from December 13 to 17, Congress (I) General Secretary Rahul Gandhi has predicted an upswing in the party support in the coming Assembly elections due early 2012. He has said the flagship schemes of Congress (I)-led UPA government like Mahatma Gandhi National Employment Guarantee Act (MNREGA) has created groundswell of support for the Congress (I) at the grassroots. To generate employment opportunities for the poor in rural areas this central sponsored scheme provides minimum 100 days employment to the poor just for the asking at Rs 120 per day. Needy poor do not have to leave their villages for employment as it is provided in the village itself for infrastructure works like lying of roads, construction of schools, repair of wells, digging of drainage etc. This scheme brought under inspiration of Congress (I) President Sonia Gandhi has helped the needy poor to earn their livelihood.
